ABOUT HOBBS FARMERS' MARKET

The Hobbs Farmers' Market was founded in 2011 by Wayne & Neena Wagnon. As of the end of 2015, HFM is a certified non-profit charity organization. HFM is registered with the New Mexico Famers' Marketing Association and we are a proud member of the Hobbs Chamber of Commerce, to whom we offer our gratitude for their continued support. Our board members receive no pay other than the satisfaction of helping the community in their pursuit to lead a healthy lifestyle.

MORE INFORMATION
IN REGARDS TO HOBBS FARMERS' MARKET:

Education & Our Right to Know

In today's world, our food commonly comes from unknown sources. It's here now, so what does it matter, right? Wrong. Having first-hand knowledge of your food's origins, how it was grown, preserved, and/or handled before it gets to your family's dinner table is a privelege that we should not deny ourselves.

Learning of new ways to grow or cook your food, as well as getting to know your local community, is a priceless opportunity in itself. Getting in touch with the local vendors at the Hobbs Farmers' Market can benefit a person with endless amounts of valuable information. So come by, take your time, and get to know us!

Lifestyle Diversity

Getting acquainted with new people and even different foods is absolutely essential to leading a healthy lifestyle. If you have never been to a farmers' market, there are many new types of people and experiences just waiting for you to find them!

If your everyday life consists of the same people, places, things, and foods, why not spice things up a bit and try to find something new? Try to fit a visit to our weekly market into your routine. Although you wouldn't think so, there are many ways it can benefit you physically and mentally:

1. Exercise! Talk a walk around the lake after you are done shopping. Enjoy the idea that you've been given the gift of a new day.

2. A wide variety of fresh produce! With new foods come new challenges. Learning to cook new things is always fun. Give it a shot!

3. Socializing! Who doesn't enjoy meeting new people and making new friends? Our market consists of vendors from many walks of life. Make a new friend and you may just find a new way of life!

4. Diet! The majority of foods sold at farmers' markets are typically very beneficial to overall health & mood when added to your diet.

5. Opportunity! If you have you a talent or product that you want to share with the world, the best place to start is in your local community. Ask the vendors how to get involved! We do accept volunteers for various tasks. Helping others is a great way to improve your mental health.

Locations

In the past years, HFM has been located in multiple places. In the beginning it was on Broadway, in downtown Hobbs, but easy access to parking was a bit of a problem.

After Broadway, HFM relocated to Del Norte Park on Grimes. Del Norte was an excellent place for our market, in every way; except for the lack of exposure. We couldn't be seen from the road, and very few people of our community knew we were there. Our customers were mostly limited to those who had the knowledge of our location.

After a few years, the decision was made to try relocating to Green Meadows Lake, just off the north Lovington Highway. We are hoping that the location will draw the attention of passersby, unlike the previous location where vendor's booths were not visible from the main road. There is also much more parking at Green Meadows Lake, as well as easier access for vendors when loading and unloading.

If you have not visited the lake since the recent renovations, you would not believe it was the same place! We hope to make this park a more frequent place of interest for the people of Hobbs and surrounding areas.

Healthcare

You are probably thinking about the federal government's recent update to health insurance right now, but that's not the kind of healthcare we are going to discuss here.

When we fall ill, most of us will turn to a doctor with the notion in mind that our doctors are responsible for making us healthy. This view is one of subonscious self-destruction. Worrying about our health is not something we should only do once something has gone wrong. We have to knowingly care about being healthy every day, and every meal of our lives. Being mindful on a daily basis of our unhealthy choices is the best approach to preventing ever needing to visit our medical professionals.

Now, if you are sick, please don't avoid your doctor on our behalf! The point here is not to eliminate the doctors from our health routines, but to limit the need for them by taking care of ourselves so that they don't have to. It's our body. So, that means it is our own responsibility!

Environment

Seeking alternative healthy ways of eating and living our lives is what farmers' markets are all about. The practice of sustainable and environment-friendly farming is encouraged by the Hobbs Farmers Market. Composting is a great way of giving back to the earth, ensuring that the soil remains nourished. We have multiple USDA organic certified farmers with good reputations for their everyday presence at our market. Foods found at our everyday grocery stores are rarely free of pesticides and genetic modifications. Organically gown heirloom fruits and vegetables can be very hard to find in the immediate area of Hobbs. Let us help to make your search easier. Come see us and get to know our local growers. Feel free to inquire as to what methods they use and how your food was grown. You may learn something useful!
